Meeting of U.P.E.A. , Zonal Elections and Farewell Function in Haldwani on 24 Feb 08

On 24 Feb a farewell function ,general meeting of members and Zonal Elections were organised in Haldwani.Farewell was given to Er. Kamal Mohan, CGM (retd), Er. A.S. Khan, EE (retd.), Er. JI.S.Khurana, Er. M.L. Singhla and Er. Ashok Gandhi.
It was a very emotional occasion for all.

In the post lunch session, a general meeting of members of Kumanon was held to discuss various issues and the agenda of U.P.E.A. This was followed by Election of the new Zonal Executive body of Kumaon. In addition to the previous offices, that of Joint Zonal Secretary (Kumaon) was established. Kalagarh branch which had in the past been part of Garhwal Zone, was reorganised by merging Kalagarh with Kashipur and Khatima with Rudrapur branch.

The names of newly elected office bearers are as folows:

Er. P.C. Pant (DGM, UPCL) conducted the election process as the Election Officer. The newly elected office bearers were sworn in by Er. T.M. Bharadwaj (President, U.R.E.A).

As I am also the outgoing Zonal Secy (Kumanon), I look back and recall that last year has been very eventful. Branches of Kumaon were re- organised, strengthend and galvanised. Communication and mobilisation, whenever required, were total and immediate.

I wish the best of luck to the newly elected Zonal Executive Body and hope that they will continue to enjoy the same rapport with members.

The Week that Was.

As the newly elected Central Executive Body of UPEA completes its first week, I summarise the events of this week:

8th Feb 2008: Election & Swearing in of the members of new Central Executive Body.
9th Feb: Central Executive Body meeting preceeding the B.O.D. meeting of UJVNL scheduled on 11 feb.
11th Feb: Meeting with Er. Yogendra Prasad, Chairman, UJVNL, preceeding the scheduled B.O.D. meeting of UJVNL .
12th Feb: JCC meeting with managements culd not be conducted.
14th Feb: Introductory meetings of the newly elected Central Executive Body members with Er. S. Mohan Ram, M.D. UPCL and PTCUL as well as with Er. S.P.Singh, M.D. UJVNL.
JCC meeting with managements postponed.
15th Feb: JCC meeting with managements culd not be conducted.

All Members, Uttaranchal Power Engineers Association :

Dear Members,

Firstly I thank you all for electing me your General Secretary. I understand that some members travelled for two days to vote in the elections . I appreciate your support and I shall do my best to live up to expectations.

This year round we will see a lot more involvement of general members. Firstly I will make sure to reach out and keep you well informed about the developments in UPCL/UJVNL/PTCUL. You will also be informed about major discussions with the managements and the decisions taken therein. All members (and not just office bearers) are encouraged to participate in the Executive Body meetings . You are welcome not only to listen but also to participate in the discussions.

Zonal and Branch Secretaries (to be elected shortly) shall play a crucial role in communication with you, so I need not remind you to choose them wisely. They will be the grass roots workers as well as the next generation in leadership. As you shall soon see, Organisational Secretaries and Publicity Secretaries will also be much more active this year. Whereas the number of Vice-Presidential posts has been reduced this year, their responsibilities have increased. The association will try to utilise the enenrgies and talents of each and every member. Last butnot least, we shall continue to be guided by senior and experienced members.

I hope that through increased communication and transparency, close evaluation of the performance of the Executive Body shall become possible and will lead to further democratisation of the decision making process in UPEA which will strengthen the association with the increased involvment of each and every member.
